La Crosse area residents are invited to join the La Crosse County Historical Society and a young Frank Hixon as he celebrates New Year’s with friends and family at the Hixon House.
It is December 1881 and 19-year-old Frank, the eldest son of Gideon and Ellen, has returned home on holiday from his job at the Hixon and Co. lumber plant in Hannibal, Missouri. His parents just completed a major addition and redecoration of their home, so La Crosse residents were able to view the “spacious and recently re-furbished interior” at this festive reception. The house is decorated for Christmas, the punch, sandwiches, and cakes are plentiful, and the music is merry. Costumed first-person interpreters will guide and entertain all of Frank’s guests (our visitors).
The tours at the Historic Hixon House, 429 N. Seventh St. are:
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2-3
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 9-10
- 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 (modified tours on this date)
