5 great places to shop local for the holidays in downtown Jackson


JACKSON, MI – Jackson residents will soon be filled with thoughts of turkeys, hearty dishes and eventually holiday shopping.

Some Jackson residents are already planning their gift shopping routes for the upcoming holiday season. Whether you are looking to get a gift for a friend, significant other or a family member, there are plenty of places to check out in downtown Jackson.

Here are five local downtown Jackson businesses to visit for gift ideas.

The Blessed Nest opens in downtown Jackson

The Blessed Nest

The Blessed Nest is a gift boutique shop that first opened in 2019. The shop is owned by Michelle Moore who also operates Not So Shabby, Oh! So Chic, 2600 Kibby Road.

People can find a range of gift ideas and stocking stuffers inside the store. The floor and shelves are filled with home decor items, women’s clothing, jewelry, accessories and other items.

Christmas decorations, ornaments and gnomes also can be found inside the store.

The Blessed Nest, 148 W. Michigan Ave., is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Two Jackson bookstores move to new locations

The Book Exchange

Those shopping for a book worm in their circle can grab a book at The Book Exchange in downtown Jackson.

The shop offers thousands of popular books ranging from murder mystery, romance, fiction, non-fiction and children’s books. Popular authors include Kristin Hannah and Colleen Hoover, owner Emelia Emerson said.

The Book Exchange will be selling buy-one-get-one-free Christmas books on Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25.

The Book Exchange, 142 N. Mechanic St., is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

HMN Style is opening in downtown Jackson

Hillsdale boutique, HMN Style, is a new store that has added a second location in Jackson. While the boutique is still being stocked, staff is keeping the doors open for interested shoppers.

The store features women’s clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry and other accessories. The store takes great pride in offering plus size options up to a 3XL, as well as a range of styles that would appeal to all demographics.

The store is offering sales at its Jackson location and its online store. It is offering 40 to 50% off sweaters, jackets, flannels, dresses and skirts on Black Friday, Nov. 24. There will also be 25 to 50% off of jeans, sweaters and accessories on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 25, as well as 30% off the entire website on Cyber Monday, Nov. 27.

People can catch of glimpse of the store from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

Windy Hill Creations

People visiting Windy Hill Creations can look from the floor to the ceiling for gift ideas inside of the store.

The store has been open since 2019 and is owned by Michele Hinkley. People can find a range of items including homemade furniture, Christmas décor, flower centerpieces, jewelry, clothing, children’s items and antiques.

For the shopping weekend, the store is offering 10% off everything from Nov. 24 to 26.

Windy Hill Creations, 217 N. Jackson St., is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day.

Curiouser Clay

Curiouser Clay

Curiouser Clay is a new shop that opened in downtown Jackson by Eli Zemper.

The shop specializes in offering a gallery for local artists, as well as a workshop for residents to create their own art pieces. The homemade work makes for some unique gifts, Zemper said.

A range of prints, mugs, t-shirts, pie plates, ornaments and other artwork can be found. People that visit the shop to purchase items Saturday, Nov. 25 will receive $10 off a workshop session.

Upcoming workshops will be creating hot cocoa and coffee cups, luminaries, little alters and other items. People can also stop by to glaze an ornament anytime the shop is open, they said.

Curiouser Clay is located inside of the Jackson County Tower Building, 120 W. Michigan Ave. Hours change each week due to the workshops but are posted on the business’ Facebook page.

This weekend, the shop will be open noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25.
