Coroner identifies 17-year-old who died after being hit by car on Gene Snyder Freeway


LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 17-year-old who died after being hit by a car on the Gene Snyder Freeway last weekend has been identified.

Louisville Metro Police said it happened on Interstate 265 South around 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, just past the Taylorsville Road exit.

Investigators said a car was traveling south when it hit someone, identified Wednesday by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as Ave Simerly, 17. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they’d received calls about pedestrians in the road before the crash happened. 

LMPD’s Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. Police said at the time that all parties remained on scene and no one else was injured.
