Patriot League Announces PenFed Credit Union Women’s Basketball Players of the Week (11.27.23)


BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Navy freshman guard Zanai Barnett-Gay was named Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week when the League office announced the awards on Monday.

Barnett-Gay paced the Mids to a 2-1 week with three straight 20-point games, including a career-high 29 points in the win over Binghamton.
 
Boston University senior forward Caitlin Weimar, Bucknell freshman forward Ashley Sofilkanich and sophomore guard Emma Theodorsson, Lafayette senior forward Kayla Drummond, and Loyola Maryland junior forward Lex Therien received honorable mentions.
 
The Patriot League women’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PenFed Credit Union Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week
Zanai Barnett-Gay, Navy, Fr., G, Glenn Dale, Md./Riverdale Baptist
* Barnett-Gay led Navy to a 2-1 week with three straight 20-point efforts to go with 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
* She scored a career-high 29 points on 11-16 shooting from the field in the Mids’ come-from-behind 66-59 victory versus Binghamton.
* She then finished with 22 points in Saturday’s 75-62 win over Quinnipiac and 20 points in Navy’s loss to Abilene Christian on Sunday.

Honorable Mentions 
Caitlin Weimar, Boston University, Sr., F, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson
* Weimar led a 2-0 week for BU with 13 points and 9.5 rebounds per game on 52.6 percent shooting.
* She registered her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 boards against Le Moyne (W, 64-53). She added three assists and two blocks.
* She followed that up with a team-high 14 points along with seven boards and three blocks at Northern Colorado (W, 63-52).

Ashley Sofilkanich, Bucknell, Fr., F, South Amboy, N.J./Saint John Vianny
* Sofilkanich scored 15 points in both games versus Western Kentucky and Robert Morris. The freshman shot 11-of-19 from the field and 8-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Emma Theodorsson, Bucknell, So., G/F, Moon Township/Moon
* The sophomore scored 26 points against Robert Morris on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
* She grabbed 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.

Kayla Drummond, Lafayette, Sr., F, Ontario, Canada/Crestwood Prep
* Drummond scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season the Leopard’s 83-60 win over NJIT.

Lex Therien, Loyola Maryland, Jr.., F, Marlton, N.J./Cherokee
* Therien averaged 15.5 points, 14 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in the Greyhounds’ 1-1 week.
* She recorded a season-best 18 rebounds and a career-best four assists against St. Bonaventure.
