
Macomb Area Conference champions will be showcased during the first week of the boys basketball season.
All seven defending division winners will be in action at Center Line on Saturday.
The quadruple header starts at noon when Port Huron Northern plays Cousino.
Grosse Pointe South meets Lincoln at 2 p.m.; Utica battles Eisenhower at 4, and Center Line plays Port Huron at 6.
Port Huron Northern featured Mr. Basketball award winner Tyler Jamison last season when it went 10-0 in the White Division. Jamison has moved on to Fairleigh Dickinson University, but the Huskies return the nucleus of what should be a strong team.
Cousino shared the Blue Division championship with Utica. Point guard Justin Lifshay leads the Patriots.
Grosse Pointe South went 10-0 to win the Red Division championship. Lincoln went 9-1 while winning the Gold.
Utica has 10 seniors, including high-scoring Mason Brodi, on its roster. A game feature school-district rivals Utica and Eisenhower always means a little extra to both teams.
Center Line went 10-0 while winning the Bronze title. Port Huron survived a three-team battle for the Silver crown, finishing 8-2 to finish a game ahead of Lakeview and St. Clair.
Several Macomb County teams start the season Tuesday. The slate includes Port Huron’s visit to Romeo and Lakeview’s game at city rival South Lake. Also, Algonac plays at Mount Clemens and Armada hosts Kingston.
Utica is at Port Huron Northern on Wednesday in a match-up of MAC champions. Also that night, new Fraser coach Steve Norgrove makes his debut when the Ramblers host Chippewa Valley.
Thursday’s schedule includes Parkway Christian’s visit to Austin Catholic.
