GAME 8
Eastern Illinois travels to face a nationally ranked Kansas team for the Panthers second contest this season against a team ranked in the Top 25. EIU is 3-4 on the year after a home win over Eureka College. The game tipped off what will be a stretch of five out of six games at home in Groniger Arena. Kansas is 5-1 on the year after finishing third at the Maui Invitational last week. The Jayhawks were the preseason No. 1 team in the nation but dropped to No. 5/6 in this week’s poll. EIU opened the year with a loss at No. 25 Illinois.
JACOBI JUST MISSES A DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Transfer forward Kooper Jacobi continues to make an impact for the Panthers as he enters the week as the leading scorer (11.1 ppg) and rebounder (7.4 rpg) for Eastern Illinois. Jacobi just missed his second double-double of the season on Saturday finishing with 16 points, 9 rebounds against Eureka College. It marked the second time this season he has come up one rebound short of a double-double with the exact 16 point, 9 rebound total against Monmouth (Ill.). Jacobi, who transferred after two-years at Toledo, opened his EIU career with a double-double at No. 25 Illinois finishing the season opener with 10 points, 11 rebounds.
SIMMONS 300TH WIN
Eastern Illinois jumped out to an early lead against Eureka College as they picked up a 85-39 win over the Red Devils to hand head coach Marty Simmons his 300th career win as a college head coach. Simmons has been the head coach at four schools beginning at Wartburg College in Iowa where he picked career win No. 1 over Central College of Iowa. He also has stints at SIUE, Evansville and EIU. His 100th career win came over Ball State in his first game as the head coach at Evansville. Career win No. 200 was over Loyola-Chicago.
