Tips for winter weather car maintenance

PEORIA (25News Now) – Car maintenance and preparation is a topic on the minds of drivers when the temperature drops and the snow falls.

Beachler’s Vehicle Care and Repair sees more people come in with tire lights on their dashboards this time of year, due to low tire pressure.

President Brett Beachler claimed there isn’t a big concern for losing freeze protection with antifreeze as there used to be with cars being more reliable.

Beachler said drivers should keep windshield wiper fluid full with the proper temperature mix.

“If your shop, a reputable shop is taking care of you and knows exactly what to be inspecting on the car throughout the year, there’s no reason to be in panic mode and get into preparation mode to get your car ready for winter,” said Brett Beachler.

Beachler added drivers should keep their gas tanks at least half full and make sure their windshield wipers are working properly too, as heat can destroy them.

Other tips to stay safe include keeping a winter safety kit in your car with blankets, food, and tools in case of a roadside emergency.

Beachler said everyone should learn how to change their spare tire, especially younger people.
