Jeffrey Martin wrote one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s called “Poor Man,” it’s the first track on his 2107 album, “One Go Around,” and it’s the story, as I once wrote in Spokane’s alt-weekly, The Inlander, of a young blue-collar family “struggling not only to make ends meet, but also with the psychic weight of trying to get by in a world that feels like a dam ready to burst at any moment.”
I tell you this for two reasons: 1. In the hope that you will go check out the song “Poor Man” today. But, more importantly, 2. As an excuse to tell you that Jeffrey Martin has written dozens of other incredible songs during his career as a folk singer, including 11 on his brand-new album, “Thank God We Left the Garden,” which just came out Nov. 3.
