Steamboat Springs Rotary Club honors trio from Soroco as Students of the Month

On Tuesday, the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club honored three students from Soroco High School — Cadence Salberg, Hoyt Raffay and Anna Rushton — as the club’s Students of the Month for November, December and January.

Salberg was named the Student of the Month for November, and school counselor Bailey Craig supported the award.

“Whether it’s working at Casey’s pond retirement community or being a supportive presence for her peers, Cadence embodies the spirit of civic responsibility and community engagement,” Craig said.

Salberg plans to attend Colorado Northwestern Community College in Craig to pursue a nursing degree, with the possibility of joining her mother as an aesthetician.

The Student of the Month for December, Raffay was recognized for his exceptional dedication and passion for the outdoors.

“His enthusiasm for nature is truly inspiring, as he consistently demonstrates a profound love for environmental exploration and outdoor activities,” Craig said. “Whether it’s organizing nature excursions or participating in environmental conservation initiatives, Hoyt’s commitment to fostering a deep connection with the natural world is evident in everything he does.”

Hoyt plans to attend Montana State University, where he will pursue a degree in outdoor education and conservation.

The Rotary Club also named Rushton as the Student of the Month for January.

“Anna has brought a tremendous amount of school spirit into our hallways,” Academic Advisor Jeannie Jo Logan said. “There is an excitement in the air from the students waiting in anticipation for what she is going to post to the Soroco-Ram-Nation Instagram page. Off the lacrosse field and volleyball and basketball courts, Anna has become an active member of our FFA chapter and our student council.”

Rushton plans to attend Mississippi State, where she will focus on agricultural policy and law.

“It is the Rotary Club’s great honor to provide recognition for the achievements of these students, and to support their journey towards becoming tomorrow’s future leaders,” Steamboat Rotary Club president Ashley Kane said.
