Empowering Students to Achieve Their Academic Goals: COD’s Unique Approach to Education

PALM DESERT — Your Community. Your College. That means College of the Desert (COD) is dedicated to providing students with the tools, resources, and academic opportunities they need to succeed. As we approach the upcoming semesters, we want to assure our community that we are committed to supporting our students every step of the way.

At COD, we provide various degree and program options that cater to our students’ diverse needs and interests. Our choices include transfer degrees in popular majors such as business, psychology, and nursing, and career and technical education courses in culinary arts, automotive technology and digital design. We also offer certificate programs for students seeking to advance their skills and knowledge in specific study areas, such as HVAC, welding, CNA nursing and many more.

COD offers high-quality education to all students, regardless of their circumstances. That’s why we offer online, in-person, hybrid and HyFlex class structures to fit the unique needs and schedules of each student.

Students can attend classes in person, online or a combination of both that can be scheduled or more flexible. Students can also participate in short-term classes with the option of 12 and 8 week courses.

We take pride in our diverse student community, which includes over 10,000 students.

  • 3,727 students have chosen to pursue their studies full-time.
  • 6,502 prefer the flexibility of part-time education.
  • Over 7,000 students have embraced online learning.
  • 1,344 are experiencing the best of both worlds through our hybrid model.

We strive to empower every student with the resources and support they need to achieve their academic goals, regardless of their preferred mode of learning.

This extends to our dual enrollment opportunities. High school students are welcome to take advantage of dual enrollment to meet high school graduation requirements and experience college-level classes.

While the open enrollment period for the upcoming semester is now open, COD’s mission is to be accessible to all students no matter their background; there are special dates and exceptions for those needing support to enroll. For more information, please check the Winter & Spring 2024 Registration Priority Schedule on the college’s registration page.

Education is a gift that can truly change lives, and we are incredibly honored to be a part of that journey with our students. As we approach the holiday season, we want to express our gratitude for the opportunity to serve our community of students and faculty. Our wish is for all to have a happy and safe holiday season filled with love, warmth and appreciation. We hope the holiday spirit will inspire current and future students to pursue their academic goals with renewed determination and passion.
