ESCANABA — The food pantries in Escanaba are accepting donations. For those willing and able to lend a helping hand, there are certain items that will be especially useful.

St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry — located in the service center at 115 N. 8th St. — has needs for canned fruit, canned pork and beans, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, cereal, soups and juice. The pantry is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Donations may be dropped off behind the building at the entrance from the alley.

Seventh Day Adventist Church at 210 S. Lincoln Rd. can use all food items except those containing pork or seafood. Personal hygeine items are a necessity, and this time of year, they are also looking for hats and gloves, which must be new or in good condition. Items should be dropped off at 210 S. Lincoln Rd. between 1 and 4 p.m. on Monday or Friday. If anyone has questions, they may call Robin at (931)436-1193.

Salvation Army of Escanaba, located at 3001 5th Ave. S., said that they are always happy with any non-perishable food item donations, which may be dropped off Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. To arrange a drop outside of those hours, donors may call (906) 786-0590.

There is an increased need for aid as the weather gets colder.
