USC’s fondest holiday memories

Each passing day at USC is another step closer to the end of the dreaded finals season, but it also means we’re that much closer to Winter Break! We asked students to share their favorite holiday memories in honor of the occasion.

Isaac Hill is a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day of Saints and reminisced about a sneaky adventure with his younger brother the night before Christmas.

Isaac Hill: My favorite holiday memory is when I was about eight years old, my younger brother and I woke up at about 4 a.m. long after my parents had fallen asleep and we very, very sneakily went over and took a peek under the Christmas tree. And at the time we knew that we would have gotten in trouble if we had opened our presents. And so, we very, very sneakily and very quietly ripped open a little section of the wrapping paper so that we could see exactly what was inside. And I really liked that because I just kind of it helped with the suspense a little bit, right? It just made that holiday a little bit more fun and a little bit more exciting.

Tess Patton is a senior studying Journalism and Theater and turned her mind toward her time on the stage.

Tess Patton: One of my favorite holiday memories is being a part of the holiday spectacular in my hometown in Birmingham, Alabama… This is a show that my theater company put on, and I was a part of it in different capacities from ages 10 to 18 all the way through my senior year of high school. And it just really holds so many memories. We got to sing all these holiday classics, do a Rockette number and just have so much fun and like usher people into the holidays and it’s really something I’ll never forget.

Sam Bitman split his time between Hanukkah and Christmas – reflecting not only on the holiday’s differences, but also what they have in common.

Sam Bitman: At the end of the day regardless of if you’re celebrating Hanukkah or Christmas… it was a lot of coming together with the family, and this being the time of the year to see them in the winter. You have that jolly spirit regardless of what you’re celebrating, and it’s all about the coming together.

Los Angeles International Airport expects to transport up to 2-million passengers throughout the holiday season, and many of those will be USC students on the long journey home.
