Helio Health unveils new center for 24/7 mental health and substance abuse support

Helio Health in Syracuse has opened a new Crisis Stabilization Center to support those experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.

“The Crisis Stabilization Center means that 24/7, 365 days of the year, no matter what time of day or what day, or what holiday, people have access to care,” said CEO and President Kathleen Gaffney-Babb.

The center, which is located on North Salina Street will assist anyone experiencing a behavioral health crisis, providing evaluations, care, and treatment in a safe and welcoming environment.

“There are a lot of times that people in crisis, who didn’t need a hospital emergency room, but they didn’t have another place to go in the middle of the night. They knew that they were having a mental health or substance abuse crisis, but didn’t know where to go,” Gaffney-Babb said. “This provides a community program where they can access that care without the crisis escalating to needing to go to a hospital.”

The center will be open to the public on Monday, Dec.11.
