Men’s basketball downed by Rochester, Singh ’25 scores 24


MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – University of Rochester’s Matt Wiele scored 24 points off the bench and the Yellowjackets defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 82-60 in the University Athletic Association Challenge at Middlebury College’s Pepin Gymnasium on Sunday, Dec. 3. 
 
Season Update

  • The Continentals (2-5 overall) dropped their fourth straight game. 
  • Rochester (4-3) is a member of the University Athletic Association.  

How It Happened

  • Tied 4-4, Teja Singh ’25 drained a 3-pointer and converted a 3-point play on the next possession that gave Hamilton a 10-4 lead with 17:08 left in the opening half. 
  • Singh nailed back-to-back jumpers in the paint for an 18-9 advantage with 13:12 to go. 
  • Trailing 26-20, Rochester scored six straight points and evened the score at 26 apiece. 
  • The Yellowjackets ran off 11 consecutive points and took the lead for good at 37-28. A jumper in the paint by the Continentals’ Cooper Xu ’25 in the closing seconds of the half made it 37-30 at the break. 
  • Hank Morgan ’25 hit a jumper and made it a one possession game at 43-40 with 17:05 left, but Rochester was able to cling to a single-digit lead for the next nine minutes. 
  • Up 63-55, the Yellowjackets used a 12-0 spurt and enjoyed a 20-point cushion with 4:53 to go. 
  • Rochester shot 51.7 percent (30-58) from the floor and 78.3 percent (18-23) at the line. 
  • The Yellowjackets put up 43 bench points to the Continentals’ 10. 
  • Rochester held a 40-35 edge on the glass. 
  • Hamilton shot 38.5 percent (25-65) from the field and went 6-for-13 at the charity stripe.  

Notes

  • Singh shot 10 of 19 from the field, including 3 of 6 from the 3-point line, and finished with 24 points. 
  • Morgan registered 16 points and is first in the NESCAC with 18.4 per game. 
  • Jalen Reese ’27 collected a team-high three blocks and three steals. 
  • Wiele added eight defensive rebounds and three steals for the Yellowjackets. 
  • Logan Jagodzinski contributed 18 points and seven boards. 
  • Corvin Oprea had 10 points off the bench. 
  • Tomiwa Adetosoye tallied eight points and a game-high four assists for Rochester. 

Next Game
Hamilton travels to local non-conference opponent Utica University (5-1) for a midweek matchup on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.
