A very good friend and I have a frequent joke about finding things that are “so cute.” Clothes, shoes, jewelry, hairstyles, dogs, home furnishings, our husbands, and restaurants all fall into the mix. We say it to each other a lot. But mostly, we say it a lot because we know we do. And it makes us laugh.
However, when we found Frittata Café & Bistro in Port St. Lucie, we both said it at the same time. This place is so cute! Not in a “no-boys-allowed” kind of cute. But rather in an inclusive, welcoming, quaint, the coffee-is-the-best and I love-the-menu-kind-of-cute.
At the front is a small market with shelves stacked with spices, jams, panettone, sauces, Nutella, cookies, candies and assorted pickle jars. In the dining area, the wooden tables are accompanied by sky blue, tufted booths and mid-century style chairs. Metal pendants with leather straps hang overhead.
All things food:New restaurants, reviews, inspections & best bets
The walls are interesting and appear to be splattered with cement, but I am not an expert on this. If that is the case, I wish they had invited me to participate in the flinging cement ceremony. I might look “cute” in a coverall. The décor is tranquil with simple art, including an avocado, a sunny side egg in a cast iron skillet, and the word “frittata” appearing to be smeared in the breeze.
This place is coffee-centric with cappuccino, macchiato, espresso, cortado and latte. In addition to java, Frittata Café & Bistro has an assortment of food. The menu includes salads, crepes, waffles, bagels, croissants, paninis, subs, pastas, tapas, frittatas (naturally) and flatbreads.
We started our lunch with creamy burrata tapas ($16.95), which is my new favorite dish. The velvety cheese with the soft, creamy interior was served on a board with slices of salty prosciutto di Parma and sweet red roasted peppers and drizzled with balsamic glaze. This is a perfect charcuterie arrangement for the upcoming holidays.
Frittata Café & Bistro offers modern and innovative interpretations of avocado toast, including caprese, cream cheese sesame, feta cheese kalamata olives, and strawberry almonds and balsamic glaze.
My “cute” friend ordered goat cheese pear and honey avocado toast. Perfectly creamy avocado was smeared on a slice of multigrain toast that was topped with pear slices and goat cheese crumbles. Al that goodness was drizzled with golden floral honey. The small side salad of mixed frisée greens and sweet grape tomatoes with a light vinaigrette kept the avocado toast company on the board. The bursts of flavors were wonderful.
I ordered the cheesesteak panini ($14.95). You may or may not have noticed that I have been on a cheesesteak roll, so to speak. At Frittata Café & Bistro, the natural expression of shredded beef and melted American cheese, onions and green peppers on ciabatta bread was very tasty.
There are reasonably prices desserts in the house: tiramisu, chocolate mousse cake, lava cake, gelato, cannoli and affogato. Although we did not partake, I imagine they’re all delicious with fresh brewed coffee.
Although our first impression that the restaurant was “cute” was not wrong, it was incomplete. Both the atmosphere and the service are calm, centered and sophisticated. The menu is consistent with the restaurant’s appealing and defining design. The food is fresh, delicious and plated with care.
Frittata Café & Bistro is a delightful gem.
