The International Students’ Association hosted their International Restaurant On Wednesday, Nov. 29 in the BPSC Regents Suite A . Their menu consisted of foods from countries such as Nigeria, Mexico and India. However, it was not as delectable as I had hoped.
Three friends and I decided to attend the event. We arrived 10 minutes early, so it was easy to find a seat for our group. It was supposed to start at 6 p.m., but instead started around 6:20 p.m. since ISA was still waiting for more silverware and plates. Once the event finally started, the waiter volunteers began taking our orders.
The lack of quantity and variety was what made the event a letdown. They offered tea, water and horchata as drinks, but by the time we gave our orders the horchata was all gone. The choices on the menu were primarily rice. As a college student I know rice is cheap, but so are many other dishes.
The portion sizes I was given were small, and for an event like this I expected a bit more. I ordered the Spanish rice and the Knafeh Nabulsi which I would rate a seven out of ten. I’ve never had Knafeh Nabulsi, but I thought it tasted good. However, the Spanish rice was burnt and cold, and so was the food of everyone else in my group.
Overall, this event could have been improved in many ways. The lack of quantity and time management hurt it the most. The food was okay, but it lacked variety and warmth. The International Restaurant could be an annual event, its planning just needs to be improved.
