Early bird beats the holiday rush as Americans travel ahead of schedule

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — According to Triple A, more than 55 million Americans traveled for Thanksgiving this year, and even more are expected to travel this holiday season.

According to the TSA, 2023 will have the busiest holiday travel season the US has ever seen.

But, with airports expected to be very busy, many people are traveling much earlier than usual.

Some have even decided to get their trip out of the way early so they can stay home for Christmas.

Andrew Everhart arrived at Wilmington International Airport on Sunday afternoon.

He just got back from a trip to New York City with his daughter.

“The airports really get jammed up around the holidays so we tried to time it a little bit ahead of time and get there and back before the holiday rush really starts,” Everhart said.

And despite the severe weather affecting the Southeast this weekend, no flights in and out of ILM have been delayed as of Sunday evening.
