According to accounts, a prisoner disguised himself as a sheep to pass unobserved through security at a maximum-security jail in Bolivia. José Luis Callisaya Diaz, who was serving a 15-year sentence for murder, covered himself in sheepskin and crawled through the grass at the Chonchocoro institution before attempting to scale the exterior wall.
However, Diaz, who is known as “the spider,” botched the escape and was apprehended when prison authorities noticed he was not in his cell. In Bolivia, images of his strange attempt for freedom earlier this month, depicting him crawling while wrapped in wool, went viral. Director of the Penitentiary Regime Juan Carlos Limpias stated that Diaz “took advantage of the stormy weather” to attempt his escape.
