Drugs, Firearm Found In Car After Westport Motor Vehicle Stop: Police


WESTPORT, CT — A 35-year-old Waterbury man was arrested and charged with multiple offenses last week after Westport police found drugs and a firearm in the vehicle he was riding in, according to authorities.

The man was charged with assault, sale of narcotic substance, unlawful restraint, illegal possession of a weapon in a vehicle, criminal possession of a firearm, and related charges following the Dec. 5 motor vehicle stop.

The incident began at about 1:15 a.m. when Westport police received a domestic violence call about an assault on the Sherwood Island Connector.

“Responding officers located the victim in their vehicle and determined that their boyfriend had allegedly assaulted them in the car, refused to let them leave, and prevented them from calling 911,” Westport police wrote in a statement.

The suspect had already fled the area on foot before police arrived, and had already been picked up by another vehicle.

“Officers located the vehicle traveling the wrong way on the I-95 N/B entrance ramp and initiated a traffic stop,” police wrote. “The driver of the vehicle reported that they were a Door Dash driver and had picked up [the suspect] in the area and agreed to drive him from the area. [The suspect] was located in the back seat of the car. He was removed and promptly arrested. In an effort to retrieve [the suspect]’s belongings from the backseat, two bags were removed and found to contain a handgun, narcotics, and several unopened gift cards.”

Police determined the bags were the suspect’s, and he was taken to Westport Police Headquarters.

He remains in custody, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Feb. 6.
