FAST channels boosting APAC satellite operators


The growth in Free Ad-supported Television (FAST) is helping all DTH operators and in particular those operating over the Asia-Pacific region.

The news emerged at the Asia Video Industries Association (AVIA) report and while the study does not suggest a rebound to the heady days when satellite TV dominated, three giant industry players said that FAST channels are offering a new opportunity for linear broadcasting.

AsiaSat, SES and Intelsat contributed to the report.

FAST channels “emulate the benefits of linear television on your phone or smart TV with set up channels,” said Yvonne Bertalot, SES’s director/product and reach marketing. “This trend underscores that the traditional linear television model remains a compelling option for audiences.”
