COLUMBIA, S.C. — Harvest Hope Food Bank has had to temporarily close its doors Tuesday afternoon after a natural gas leak was detected inside the building.
Dominion Energy was called out to survey the situation and the decision was made to shut off gas to the building until repairs could be made.
The food bank hopes to return to normal operations on Wednesday. In the meantime, the closure caused a ripple effect with Harvest Hope employees having to turn away people waiting in line for food, donors coming in to drop off donations, people coming in to volunteer, and agency partners doing food pick-ups for their organizations.
Harvest Hope’s pantry not only provides food for residents in the Columbia area, but helps residents in 20 counties throughout South Carolina put food on their tables.
