TO DO THAT, THEY’RE ASKING PEOPLE TO DONATE FOOD, MONEY AND SOMETHING ELSE THAT WON’T COST YOU ANYTHING. AND WE THINK TIME IS SOMETHNG JUST AS IMPORTANT. VOLUNTEERS ARE NECESSARY TO GET FOOD OUT TO OUR COMMUNITY AND PEOPLE WHO NEED IT GET IT ON THEIR TABLES AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN. LAST YEAR, FOLKS VOLUNTEERED A COLLECTIVE 30,000 HOURS OF THEIR TIME TO SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, THE EQUIVALENT OF 14 FULL TIME EMPLOYEES. VOLUNTEERS WORKING ON TUESDAY SAY IT FEELS GOOD TO KNOW THEY’RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE. IT’S VERY REWARDING TO KNOW THAT HOPEFULLY THAT YOU’RE NOT ONLY ARE YOU SERVING PEOPLE, BUT YOU’RE ALSO RESCUING SOME OF THIS FOOD THAT CAN BE USED FOR PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED IT INSTEAD OF HAVING TO THROW IT OUT. To do that, they’re asking people to donate food, money, and something else that won’t cost you anything. “We think time is something just as important,” Reedy Mench, Second Harvest Food Bank’s Senior manager of volunteer services, said. “Volunteers are necessary to get food out to our community and people who need it, get it on their tables as quickly as we can.” Last year, folks volunteered a collective 30,000 hours of their time to Second Harvest Food Bank, the equivalent of 14 full-time employees. People often associate the holidays with food, and at Second Harvest Food Bank, volunteers are working hard to make sure families in need will have food on their tables this holiday season. To do that, they’re asking people to donate food, money, and something else that won’t cost you anything.
