Porto Novo to Host a Week of Art and Culture Celebration

Porto Novo, a municipality in Santo Anto, Cape Verde, will be a hub of creative energy from Thursday, December 14, until Sunday. The Cape Verdean Authors Association (SOCA) and the Porto Novo municipal government have joined forces to host a week-long celebration of art and culture. The event encompasses a wide array of activities, showcasing the robust and diverse artistic scene of the region.

Unveiling Layers of Artistic Talent

The week will kick off with a book fair, offering a platform for authors to share their works with a wider audience. A highlight of this fair will be the launch of Celina Lizardo’s book, ‘Perfume de Jasmin.’ Lizardo is a celebrated author, with her literature strongly reflecting the essence of Cape Verdean culture.

Open conversations between authors and artists will provide a unique opportunity for cultural exchange, allowing the public to delve into the minds of these creative individuals. Among these, book presentations by Mana Guta promise to be an enriching experience for bibliophiles.

Cementing Collaborations for Cultural Growth

A significant milestone during the event will be the signing of a collaboration protocol between SOCA and the Porto Novo Municipal Chamber. This partnership aims to foster a stronger bond between the artistic community and local authorities, paving the way for more such culturally enriching events in the future.

Music, Literature, and Crafts: A Cultural Mélange

Adding a melodic note to the event, a musical poetry sunset event will feature performances by Khyra Tavares, Maya, and Carla Martz. Their enchanting tunes will create a mesmerizing ambiance, blending seamlessly with the literary vibe of the culture week.

Alongside these stimulating activities, the presentation of the SOCA Magazine compilation will offer a comprehensive view of the organization’s work and contributions to the local arts scene. Additionally, a craft products fair will display the craftsmanship and traditional artistry of Porto Novo, providing a tangible representation of the region’s cultural heritage.

This event is organized in partnership with the Literary Association of Santo Anto and the Craftsmen’s Associations of Porto Novo, making it a collaborative endeavor that truly represents the spirit of the local art and culture community.
