Netflix Faces Challenges Following André Braugher’s Unfortunate Passing

Following the death of one of its stars, André Braugher, Netflix’s upcoming drama, The Residence, has suffered yet another huge setback.

The Shondaland production, a murder-mystery thriller, had been preparing to resume production on January 2 after a six-month WGA strike that concluded in September, according to Deadline.

Before Braugher’s unexpected death, just four episodes were shot out of the eight-episode order. The Homicide: Life on the Street star died at the age of 61 earlier this week after a brief illness.

It is unclear whether production will resume on the same day or if it will be delayed longer.

There is a chance that the showrunners will take some time to consider how they will continue the series. Furthermore, it is too early to speculate if Braugher’s character will be dropped or replaced for the next four episodes.

The Residence is produced by executive producer/showrunner Paul William Davies, as well as Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

It is based on Kate Andersen Brower’s book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, which will serve as a springboard for the project.
