Billie Eilish, Finneas O’Connell Will Receive Palm Springs International Awards Chairman’s Award

At the Palm Springs International Film Awards, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell will win the Chairman’s Award for their song What Was I Made For? from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

According to a press release obtained by Variety, the couple will be honored at the Film Awards on January 4, 2024, at the Palm Springs Convention Centre.

Nachhattar Singh Chandi, festival chairman, stated in a statement, “We are thrilled to present the prestigious Chairman’s Award to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for their celebrated original song ‘What Am I Made For?’ from Barbie.”

“Billie and Finneas, with their unparalleled talent, have created a beautiful and ethereal ballad that perfectly evokes the poignancy of the journey Margot Robbie’s Barbie takes in the film,” said the chairman of the board.

Chandi went on to say, “The Palm Springs International Film Festival proudly honours these visionary artists for their award-worthy musical contribution.”

According to reports, Eilish and O’Connell’s song has received five Grammy nominations, as well as nods for best original song at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.

What Was I Made For was written by O’Connell and Eilish, who are siblings, and is performed by Eilish.

Previously, at the 62nd Grammy Awards, Eilish became the youngest performer to garner nominations in all major categories.

No Time to Die, which received an Academy Award for best original song earlier this year, was also written and recorded by the vocalist, who was the youngest artist to do so.

O’Connell is a Grammy and Academy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and composer who has written original music for films such as The Fallout and Vengeance.

In the meantime, Eilish is hard at work on her third studio album.
