A 3-car crash leaves woman in critical condition

A 25-year-old woman is in critical condition after a three-car crash on the Southfield Freeway Monday morning, according to the Michigan State Police.

Around 5 a.m. Monday, the 25-year-old woman was driving a Mazda that rear-ended an Audi leading to “extensive damage” on the Southfield Freeway near Joy Road, according to police.

The Audi was forced into a Nissan as a result of the crash. The 25-year-old female who was driving the Mazda was not responsive at the scene and was temporarily trapped inside of the vehicle. The Detroit Fire Department and EMS extricated the driver from Mazda before she was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

The 25-year-old woman was not wearing a seat belt. The other drivers involved were not hurt and were wearing their seatbelts. “It is a fact that the use of seatbelts are your best defense against getting hurt in a crash. It will keep you behind the wheel and allow all the safety devices to work. Wear your seat belt no matter where you are seated in your car,” said Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police Second District in a tweet Monday morning.
