A Michigan Center store closed its storefront, but it’s not going out of business

MICHIGAN CENTER, MI – A Michigan Center business is closing its retail store but is reminding customers it’s not going out of business.

On Saturday, Nov. 25, Modern Farmhouse, 4552 Page Ave., announced on Facebook that after a lot of thought and discussion it is closing its retail store. Its last day was Sunday, Nov. 26, according to the social media post.

The family-owned home décor and furniture store is owned by Cal McFate and his family. It started out as a simple hobby before snowballing into a business.

It moved into its retail location on Page Avenue in March 2022, where customers could find a range of furniture in the style of modern farmhouse, McFate previously said. Items included tables, benches and TV stands.

The owners declined to comment on why they decided to close the retail store, but they are telling customers that they’re not going out of business.

Modern Farmhouse will return to its roots of working from home and continuing to build custom orders. The business will also have its barn open one weekend a month and by appointment, according to the social media post.

Those with orders already placed should expect a phone call when their items are ready. Those with questions can call McFate at 517-740-6687.

Orders for furniture and home décor can still be placed by calling, messaging the Facebook page or by visiting the website.
