A new professional sports league announces plans for an expansion team in Kansas City

The Pro Volleyball Federation is slated to begin play in 2025, with Kansas City a part of the newly founded league

A new professional sports league and team is heading to Kansas City in 2025.Wednesday, the Kansas City Sports Commission and the Pro Volleyball Federation announced that Kansas City will be home to an expansion team in 2025. Missy and Kent McCarthy own the professional women’s sports team. The owners announced that the team will hire key leadership positions and coaches in the coming months. The team’s name and brand details will be unveiled in 2024. The location of the new team’s home games and practice facilities has yet to be announced. The inaugural season for the newly formed league is scheduled to begin in January of 2024 and features seven teams based in the following cities: Grand Rapids, MIAtlanta, GA Columbus, OHOrlando, FL;San Diego, CA Omaha, NELas Vegas, NVEach team will play 24 matches, with the season running from January to May each season. The Heart of America Volleyball, a regional organization based in Kansas City, Kansas, has approximately 17,000 club volleyball players and 3,000 coaches. Additionally, there are 15 college volleyball programs in the Kansas City Area. “It’s no coincidence we wanted Kansas City to be the home of our women’s professional volleyball team,” Co-owner Missy McCarthy said in the release. “Yes, it holds a special place in our hearts, but Kansas City is also on the rise. The energy and momentum are electric; you can feel it.”The team’s owners have extensive ties to the Kansas City area, with more than 20 members of their extended family attending The University of Kansas. Kent McCarthy is also a longstanding donor to KU’s business school.
