A weekend classic event returns to Brownsville with good music and great food

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.—One local community celebrates another year of fellowship and great music.

The Exit 56 Blues Festival is free for those that attend.

This is an all time favorite event for the community of Brownsville to come together with great music and good food.

“We want to promote the blues. It’s part of our legacy here in Brownsville, Tennessee. Our music and our food are our trademarks, so this is very fitting when everyone’s out having a great time,” said Brownsville Mayor, William Rawls.

This festival is a time for professional and amateur artists to showcase their talents.

For the host, this is one of her favorite parts of the festival.

“Being able to see all of the fans that come back, the aficionados and stuff. And I mean they travel from far and near and also the Corvette Club, because they come down as far down south as Florida and as hype up Milwaukee to come in for this event,” said festival host, Jazzii Anderson.

The Corvette Show is competitive offering various awards to drivers. This festival also brings people together.

“We are enjoying ourselves and I’m from Trenton, Tennessee. I’m visiting from Mount Orange Church and we are enjoying this festival. We are buying gifts and everything. We are just having a good time,” said attendee, Paulette Williams.

This year they have more vendors than ever.

Mayor Rawls shares his favorite performer from this evening.

“My favorite artist is Lindsey Butler. Cause Lindsey is a character, he’s been hanging around with us for years, even before we started having festivals and he plays the harmonica and tells stories. He’s a character so he’s a part of our extended family,” Rawls said.

Sunday, May 26 from 10 that morning until 5 that evening the Women in Blues will perform for the second day of the festival.
