A Youtuber Claims He Was Offered a Spot on a Submersible Trip to Titan, but He Declined

MrBeast, a YouTube star, seems to have gotten out of a close call with death on a whim.

People Magazine reported on Sunday, June 26, 2023, that the online content creator and philanthropist, who is 25 years old, had been asked to join the mission to explore the Titanic wreckage in the Titan submersible.

“I was invited earlier this month to ride the Titanic submarine, I said no,” he wrote on Twitter. “Kind of scary that I could have been on it.”

The YouTuber, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, also posted a piece of what seemed to be a text conversation with someone who asked him to join.

“Also, I’m going to the Titanic in a submarine late this month,” the person wrote. “The team would be stoked to have you along.”

MrBeast sent out the invitation to the underwater trip a few days after OceanGate said that five people on the Titan submersible died when the sub exploded after the rescue search.

The Titan submersible “lost all communication” with the Canadian expedition vessel Polar Prince “approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes” into its dive last Sunday. It was looking for the Titanic wreckage in the depths of the North Atlantic Ocean.

OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet were on board the submarine.

On Thursday, June 22, 2023, Captain Jamie Frederick of the US Coast Guard said that all the lives on board had been “sadly lost.” This was after they found debris in the Titan chamber that pointed to a sudden loss of air.
