About 1,000 vehicles show up for New Hampshire Food Bank mobile pantry


MANY FAMILIES ARE FACING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON. THE NEW HAMPSHIRE FOOD BANK DOES A MOBILE PANTRY EVERY WEEK 52 TIMES PER YEAR. THIS ONE FAR EXCEEDED THEIR EXPECTATIONS. OBVIOUSLY, THE HOLIDAYS ARE A DIFFICULT TIME OF YEAR FOR A LOT OF FAMILIES, AND WE’RE REALLY GRATEFUL TO JUST BE ABLE TO BE HERE AND HELP STRETCH THEIR GROCERY BILL FURTHER WHEN EACH CAR PULLS AWAY, THEY ARE ASKED HOW MANY FAMILIES THEY ARE PICKING UP FOR AND EACH FAMILY RECEIVES A BOX OF DRY GOODS AND A BOX OF PRODUCE, PLUS SOME OTHER LOOSE ITEMS LIKE A TURKEY, SOME POTATOES, CARROTS AND ONIONS. THE TURKEYS. A SURPRISE TODAY, RIGHT? YEAH, A SURPRISE. ONE THAT WE’RE REALLY GRATEFUL TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE TO FAMILIES. THE FOOD BANK WAS MOVING THEM THROUGH AS FAST AS THEY COULD. DOZENS OF VOLUNTEERS LOADING THEM UP WITH FOOD AND HOLIDAY SPIRIT. FIRST OF ALL, THE SHOCK TO SEE SO MANY CARS, TO BE HONEST. BUT THEN ARE SO HAPPY THAT WE’RE HERE. THEY’RE SO GLAD TO SEE US. THEY’RE GRATEFUL TO GET THE FOOD. PEOPLE ARE SO NICE. WHAT’S YOUR NAME? WHERE ARE YOU FROM? MY NAME IS JEFF. I’M FROM MANCHESTER. JEFF, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS? THIS IS AWESOME. I ACTUALLY JUST LOST MY JOB ON FRIDAY, SO IT’S BEEN PRETTY NICE TO HEAR THAT THEY WERE GIVING OUT SOME FOOD AND STUFF. DAN MURRAY, EXETER AND WHO’S BARKING IN THE BACK THERE? OH, PICKLES. SO NICE TO HAVE IT FOR THANKSGIVING AND TO HELP FEED PEOPLE. AND I THINK IT’S PRETTY GOOD. I’M NANCY AND THIS IS REBA MCENTIRE. REBA MCENTIRE. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? NO, NO. HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Families surprised with turkeys after they arrive for food

The New Hampshire Food Bank does a mobile pantry every week, 52 weeks a year. Tuesday’s far exceeded organizers’ expectations.Hundreds of cars showed up for food days before the Thanksgiving holiday.”Obviously, the holidays are a difficult time of year for a lot of families,” said Abby Sprackland, of the New Hampshire Food Bank. “We are really grateful to be able to be here and help stretch their grocery bill further.”When each car pulls up, they are asked how many families they are picking up for, and each family receives a box of dry goods and a box of produce. Tuesday’s event included some extras.”Some other loose items, like a turkey, potatoes, carrots and onions,” Sprackland said. The turkeys were a surprise.”Yeah, a surprise, and one that we are grateful to be able to provide to families,” Sprackland said.The Food Bank was moving cars through as fast as they could. Dozens of volunteers loaded up the vehicles with food and holiday spirit.”First of all, they are shocked there are so many cars, to be honest,” said volunteer Jim Foster. “But they are so happy that we’re here. They are so glad to see us. They are grateful to get the food. People are so nice.”In the end, every vehicle, about 1,000 of them, went home with food.
