ACC Basketball Tipoff Previews 2023-24 Season

CHARLOTTE – The annual ACC Men’s Basketball Tipoff was held on Wednesday at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown, with all 15 conference teams in attendance to preview the upcoming 2023-24 season with the media.

Second-year head coach Jon Scheyer was joined by senior captain Jeremy Roach, sophomore captain Tyrese Proctor and classmate Kyle Filipowski, speaking to the media on their expectations and goals for the upcoming season as the Blue Devils enter the year ranked No. 2 in the AP preseason poll.

“This year, collectively, with the eight guys returning – Jeremy (Roach), Flip (Kyle Filipowski), Mark (Mitchell), and Tyrese (Proctor) starting and coming back, there’s great experience,” said Scheyer. “There’s a comfort there, which is really good. But comfort can make you soft. And so for us, we’ve doubled down on the work we’ve put in every single day and not assuming anything.”

In addition to their media availability, Roach, Filipowski and Proctor took part in photo shoots, radio appearances and network video segments. The preseason All-ACC teams and predicted order of finish, as picked by the media, will be announced later this week.

Roach and Proctor were named two of the Blue Devils’ 2023-24 captains, along with graduate Ryan Young in early October. Filipowski returns after being named the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2022-23.

“Some people lead by example,” said Roach, who was also a captain as a junior. “Some are more vocal than others. I think it’s kind of setting that example every day, being the leader, being someone that everyone looks to because all the freshmen all the younger guys are going to look up to the captains. So you’ve got to make sure we have a strong face.”

The next preseason events for the Blue Devils is the lone public exhibition game against UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
