With the ACC expanding westward in 2024, adding California, Stanford and SMU, the conference released its new, 17-team scheduling format for the next seven seasons Monday night.
The conference alleviated some schools’ fear of excessive travel by mandating that the current 14 schools will play a total of only three times each in California through 203o.
Pitt will have two annually protected opponents — longtime eastern rivals Boston College and Syracuse — and each of the ACC’s 17 teams will play each other at least twice over the next seven seasons, once at home and once on the road. No team will travel west in consecutive seasons.

Pitt’s first game on the west coast will be during the 2025 season at Stanford.
At the end of the season after each team plays eight conference games (four home, four away), the two top teams by ACC winning percentage will meet in the annual ACC championship game.
