Proximity to High Point, N.C. was the inspiration behind Accent Prone, a 12-year-old home décor store in Kernersville, N.C.
Started by owners Justin and Cheri Lingafelt as a store devoted to selling extra stock sourced from High Point showrooms after furniture markets, it has evolved to include furniture, home décor pieces, apparel, jewelry and gifts.
Accent Prone has been in its current location four years, having moved from another retail space nearby. The store boasts 7,500 square feet, of which 5,000 is retail space.
About 80% to 90% is new inventory, with samples still sold though the company’s 12,000-square-foot warehouse on Saturdays only.
The store’s mix, according to Lingafelt, is an eclectic mix of transitional, boho and modern farmhouse.
A newer initiative for Accent Prone is its focus on its online presence. “We’ve sold more in the past six months than the past 11 years online,” said Lingafelt, who credited social media, better digital images, improved technology and consumers’ ease with online shopping since COVID as reasons for the success.
Accent Prone has also expanded to a second store in Huntersville, which is near Charlotte. The 3,500-square-foot store opened in late April.
