Accents business plans layoffs of 80 office, distribution center employees

GLENWILLOW, Ohio — Metro Décor LLC, an e-commerce business that designs and produces accent furniture, storage and organization products and home textiles, is laying off 80 employees in its office and distribution center.

The company, which operates as MDesign Home Décor, filed a WARN Act notice with the Ohio Office of Workforce Development on Feb. 15, stating it was laying off 30 people in its office location here, effective Feb. 29, and 50 at its distribution center in Solon, Ohio, effective March 31, which will result in closing that facility. The separations are expected to be permanent.

In the WARN notice letter, Lindsay Vigorito, vice president-human resources, wrote that Metro Décor LLC “has been actively seeking capital and/or a buyer and believed that financing or a buyer that would have been sufficient to enable the company to avoid employee separations could be obtained.

“We would have liked to have given more notice of the layoff and closure,” she wrote, “but were unable to do so because providing the notice would have had a negative impact on the company’s ability to obtain financing or a buyer.”

Furniture Today has reached out to Metro Décor for comment.

In 2022, MDesign Home Décor announced a partnership with Nebraska Furniture Mart to sell some of its furniture, storage and organization items, marking its first partnership with a brick-and-mortar retailer.

MDesign sells products, including accent furniture ranging from coffee tables and nightstands to rolling carts and fabric dressers, via its own website as well as through Amazon, Target and other e-commerce retailers. It also has a partnership with designer Nate Berkus for the Nate Home line that includes bed and bath textiles, decorative pillows and home storage items.
