According to the MOISD, career and technical education was established in Mecosta and Osceola counties in 1976. There has been approximately 19,000 students that have attended the MOCC.

The MOISD has focused on enrollment initiatives such as offering summer camps, increasing the number of opportunities for eighth and 10th grade visits to the MOCC, hosting an annual open house inviting the community to visit all programs, program instructors and paraprofessionals presenting at local districts, staff attending local district orientations and encouraging participation in district school events.

The MOCC technical education curriculum includes allied health, automotive technology, construction, cosmetology, culinary arts, cybersecurity and information technology, diesel technology, graphic communications, automated manufacturing technology, public safety and welding and fabrication.

MOCC students earned a total of 1,100 industry-recognized certifications during the 2021-22 school year.

The MOCC programs offer state-approved certifications as well as supplemental credentials. Supplemental credentials are credentials recommended by business and industry.

A new course introduced in 2023 is agricultural science which focuses on aspects of farming, including food production, material production, animal husbandry, natural resources and environmental studies. The course will also incorporate partnerships with local agricultural workers and companies engaging with students on production and commerce topics.

The general education department at the MOISD offers schools within the Mecosta and Osceola County region a variety of learning opportunities and services designed to improve student achievement, classroom instruction and collaboration amongst districts and assist local district teachers and administrators.

At the Nov. 3 meeting, the administration and educators will review department courses and curriculum, identify needs within the district to address as well as inquire with the community to connect with resources and potential partnership and educational opportunities.
