Chandigarh: The Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society organised a cycle rally from Sukhna Lake to New Lake in Sector 42 here on Sunday.
Over 250 cyclists from the city participated in the rally, which was flagged off by secretary health, Chandigarh administration, Ajay Chagti, along with director health services, Dr Suman Singh. Chagti urged people to adopt a healthy lifestyle by making cycling a routine activity.
The participants had decorated their cycles to spread the message “Know AIDS for No AIDS”. Placards with suitable messages were also displayed by the cyclists. The best decorated bicycles which conveyed the message of HIV modes of transmission were awarded.
A quiz was conducted on HIV/AIDS at Sector 42 lake, and the winners were awarded prizes. The participants were also motivated for free HIV testing at the Mobile HIV Testing Van stationed at the concluding venue.
Project director Dr Virender Nagpal said, “As a result of extensive education and awareness about the disease, HIV prevalence in Chandigarh is on a declining trend.” tnn

The state has made progress in reducing stigma, but it remains a barrier to testing. Students were advised to avoid alcohol, drugs, and peer pressure to protect themselves. Goa offers financial assistance and travel concessions to HIV patients. Health Secretary Arun Kumar Mishra highlighted the role of communities in fighting HIV/AIDS.
