Advice from Westlake police on how to avoid car theft: ‘You are not an easy victim’


WESTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) – Westlake police are warning people to lock up their cars after recovering two stolen vehicles Friday.

The department issued the reminder after officers said a person living on Balsam Drive had their car stolen from the driveway overnight.

During their investigation, police said they learned the car owner had accidently left their keys inside and doors locked.

Officers tracked the car to a Cleveland home, and according to police, found a another stolen car there.

The department also shared a video on Facebook of an unrelated attempted theft, to show how easy it can be to avoid car theft.

It shows a person approach a vehicle, attempt to open the car door and then leave upon realizing it is locked.

“This video shows what happens when you lock up your car…..nothing. You are not an easy victim,” Westlake police said.

Officers said they found the person in the video, and charges are pending.
