Africa: include community healers in health policies


Jean Kaseya proposes a self-sustaining model for public health in Africa that could tackle non-infectious diseases and mental-health disorders as well as the infectious diseases that plague the continent (Nature 621, 9; 2023). But to implement this model successfully, policymakers will need to transcend colonial prejudices and cooperate with traditional African healers.
