Performers from the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia entertained about one hundred residents and friends on Sunday, February 4, in the second annual Afternoon of Music hosted by the West Norriton Arts & Culture Commission.
Held at Ascension United Church of Christ in Jeffersonville, the event featured three singers, Ethel Trujillo, Matthew Goodheart and Geoffrey Schmelzer, accompanied by Luke Housner on piano. They presented opera selections from Rossini, Donizetti and more in the first half of the program, while in the second half they focused on light opera and Broadway including tunes from Oklahoma, South Pacific and Camelot.

The West Norriton Arts & Culture Commission was established last year. Members are Mary Treisbach, Sue Devenny, Simone Keynes and Kathy Yaramishyn supported by West Norriton Commissioners Peter Smock and Board liaison Judith Eckles. The group has a plan for 2024 that includes art shows, dance events, additional music programs and other opportunities to bring arts and culture to area residents.
