AI Powers Automotive Summit 2025 in Thailand

The Thailand Automotive Institute and RX Tradex launch a premier summit exploring AI’s transformative role in Thailand’s automotive sector and global industry trends.

The Thailand Automotive Institute, in collaboration with RX Tradex, is organising the Automotive Summit 2025, a premier conference under the theme “AI4AI: Artificial Intelligence for Automotive Industry”. This high-profile event will explore how artificial intelligence is transforming the future of mobility, featuring leading experts decoding global technology trends, redefining business strategies, and highlighting investment opportunities. The summit will take place from June 18–21 at BITEC, Bangkok.

Dr Kriengsak Wongpromrat, President of the Thailand Automotive Institute, emphasised that Thailand remains one of the world’s leading automotive production bases—ranking 10th globally, 5th in Asia, and 1st in ASEAN for four consecutive years. Despite a 20% production decline in 2024 to 1.47 million vehicles, a recovery is expected in 2025, with projected production reaching 1.5 million vehicles. Factors such as domestic car sales dropping 26% to around 570,000 units and exports decreasing 9% to 1 million vehicles have been attributed to household debt and pricing competition. Nonetheless, exports are expected to remain a key driver amid an increasingly competitive market.

Strong domestic demand and government incentives have attracted significant investment in battery electric vehicle (BEV) production, particularly from Chinese automakers. The sector has seen investments exceeding 100 billion baht and an annual production capacity of over 500,000 BEVs. The government has also approved incentives for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) production, with requirements to use locally made components and implement at least four out of six advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including sensors, LiDAR, radar, cameras, and software.

The rise of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) – where software technology plays a pivotal role in vehicle development—is reshaping the industry. The global AI automotive market is projected to grow from USD 7 billion in 2024 to USD 19 billion in 2034, with over 10% annual growth.

The Automotive Summit 2025 will focus on AI’s transformative power across three core areas: applications in vehicles, production processes, and the broader automotive ecosystem, including autonomous vehicles, automated production, and intelligent transport systems (ITS). The summit will feature global perspectives from over 16 leading public and private organisations, including Kagawa University, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), KPIT, and the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI).

Mrs Varaporn Dhamcharee, Managing Director of RX Tradex, highlighted this as the 12th consecutive year of collaboration with the Thailand Automotive Institute. The summit coincides with the 20th edition of “Automotive Manufacturing”, ASEAN’s largest exhibition for automotive parts production machinery and technologies, which last year attracted nearly 13,000 participants from 47 countries.

The broader Manufacturing Expo also underscores Thailand’s leadership in advanced manufacturing, with over 24,000 participants last year, of which the automotive sector accounted for approximately 30%. Mrs Varaporn stressed that collaboration with expert institutions enables organisers and attendees to identify trends, develop strategies, and seize opportunities that shape Thailand’s automotive future.

In addition to hosting more than 250 brands showcasing cutting-edge machinery and production technologies, the Automotive Manufacturing 2025 will be held under the theme “All About Future Mobility”. The summit, which welcomed over 700 attendees last year, aims to attract no fewer than 900 participants in 2025.
