AI tennis app SwingVision raises US$6m to expand into pickleball and padel


AI-powered tennis coaching and analytics application SwingVision has raised US$6 million in a series A funding round that will allow it to refine its computer vision technology and expand into pickleball and padel.

  • SwingVision is now used by more than 100 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) division one tennis teams in the US.

Context:

SwingVision was founded in 2019 with the goal of bringing professional-grade analytics to tennis players of any skill level. Its technology analyses smartphone video in real time, providing detailed statistics, video highlights and personalised coaching.

Partners include Tennis Australia and the UK’s Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), while existing investors include former men’s world number one Andy Roddick, co-founder of MyFitnessPal Albert Lee, and Strava’s chief financial officer Jason Liu.

The company was named one of SportsPro’s sports technology ideas to invest in class of 2022.

“This infusion of capital will unlock our vision to build a category-leading, multi-sport platform that will eventually become the primary way all athletes record, share, and improve their game,” said Swupnil Sahai, co-founder and chief executive of SwingVision.

Coming up:

The new funding will be used to increase headcount, including developers to build tournament-grade officiating and remote coaching capabilities into the platform, and to expand into other racquet sports that are surging in popularity at a recreational level.
