Alameda Scouts collected almost 13,000 pounds of non-perishable food last weekend in their Scouting For Food 2023 drive to benefit the Alameda Food Bank. The Scouts started on November 4, traversing the island and leaving doorhangers that asked the community to help by donating food the following weekend.
When they returned on November 11 to collect what was offered, they were met with a generous bounty of non-perishable food donated by residents to help the Food Bank put meals on the tables of at least 1,000 families who turn to it for help each week.
“Bag-by-bag and box-by-box it added up quickly,” the Food Bank posted on its Facebook page. The Scouts delivered almost 13,000 pounds of food! That food will provide many delicious meals to local families during this holiday season.
“Thank you to the Scouts and all who helped out last weekend—we’re looking at you, Rotarians, Coasties and many others,” the Food Bank posted. “And thank you to the hundreds of Islanders who donated.”
If you didn’t receive a doorhanger but still would like to help the Alameda Food Bank feed our neighbors, you can always donate food or funds directly. Bring food donations to the Food Bank warehouse at 650 West Ranger Ave., 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Or if you would prefer to donate funds, visit Ways to Give – Alameda Food Bank. For every $1 you donate, the Food Bank can provide $7 worth of food to our neighbors who need it.
