On Thursday, Nov. 9, Aldine ISD’s Carter Academy was awarded the Best Visual and Performing Arts Award presented by Magnet Schools of the Mid-South (MSMS) at the conference held in Garland.
The MSMS-held conference awarded various magnet schools in Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, on their ability to implement programs into their curriculum, and were judged on student gain within said programs. In order to have the campus qualify for an award, the school had to have implemented the program being judged for at least one full academic year.
The awards competition was designed to recognize schools at the regional level that exhibit inclusion of diversity, program sustainability, thematic implementation, innovative activities, community engagement, effective marketing, and professional development.
It is through these guidelines that Carter Academy was awarded the Best Visual and Performing Arts school amongst the other schools.
“The visual and performing arts are vital components of Carter Academy,” said Carter Academy Principal Cindy Buentello. “They support the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development of our students during this foundational stage of their education.”
Campus awards such as these are the types of highlights Aldine looks to showcase. Preparing students for their futures, while also showing how important the arts are in curriculum, are both values held within Aldine ISD.
