Established in 2006 by the Jaipur Virasat Foundation (JVF) founded by Faith Singh, JLF was originally a segment of the Jaipur Heritage International Festival. It later became a standalone literature festival in 2008. Transcending the boundaries of language, genre, and culture, and featuring a range of sessions that cover everything from poetry and fiction to politics and science, the Jaipur Lit Fest has something for everyone. The Jaipur Literature Festival 2024 date for the 17th edition is out. It will be held from 1 February to 5 February, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The venue for the Jaipur Literature Festival 2024 is the prestigious Hotel Clarks Amer. The events are going to be held in seven different places inside the Hotel Clarks.

Themes for this year

Like every year, the theme for this edition of Jaipur Lit Fest is quite diverse. This year’s main theme is “Stories Unite Us” and includes genres like Fiction and Non-Fiction, Crime Fiction, Literary Criticism, History, Politics and Current Affairs, Poetry, Art and Culture, Translation, Graphic Novels, Gender, Science and Medicine, Food and Memory, Biographies and Memoir, Spirituality and Religion, Mental Health, Fashion and Lifestyle, Geopolitics, Literary Icons Through The Ages, Art and Architecture, Bollywood and Cinema, and many more.

Jaipur Literature Festival 2024 speakers

For the 17th edition, the festival will host more than 250 speakers from across different nationalities as well as major award winners, such as the Booker, International Booker, the Pulitzer, the Sahitya Akademi, Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, the JCB Prize for Literature and many more.

Out of the 250 Jaipur Literature Festival 2024 speakers, the most prominent ones to watch out for are:

Abhay K: A poet, editor and translator, author of several poetry collections including Celestial and Monsoon and editor of The Book of Bihari Literature.

Amish: An author and a former diplomat, he is the fastest-selling author in Indian history. His books have sold 7 million copies to date.

Arundhathi Subramaniam: A leading Indian poet and writer of spirituality. She was shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize 2015, and is the winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020, the Khushwant Singh Poetry Prize, the Raza Award, the Il Ceppo Award in Italy, among others.

Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni: An award-winning writer, activist, professor of Creative Writing at University of Houston, and the author of 21 books such as Mistress of Spices, Sister of My Heart, Palace of Illusions, The Forest of Enchantments, and The Last Queen.

Gulzar: One of India’s leading poets and one of the country’s finest writers. A scriptwriter and film director, he has been one of the most popular lyricists in mainstream Hindi cinema. He has won an Oscar and a Grammy, the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Hernan Diaz: Pulitzer Prize-winning and New York Times bestselling author of Trust and In the Distance. His work has been published in 35 languages.

Kanan Gill: An author, comedian, and actor from Bangalore.

Kelly Dorji: A Bhutanese actor and author. He owns a leading travel company and one of Bhutan’s most popular night spots called The Grey Area.

Maria Goretti: A  dancer, specialising in jazz and tap, a former MTV VJ, a roaming presenter during the ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka in 2002 and the Cricket World Cup in South Africa in 2003. She is also known for her cooking shows, including Do it Sweet, I Love Cooking, I Want to Bake Free, and Cafe Maria on Disney+Hotstar.

Namita Gokhale: Author of 23 works of fiction and non-fiction and the co-founder and co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival.

Raghuram G. Rajan: A world-renowned Indian economist and currently a distinguished service professor at the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business. He has served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and chief economist at the International Monetary Fund.

Sudha Murthy: The chairperson of the Infosys Foundation and a prolific writer in English and Kannada. She has won the R.K. Narayan Award for Literature and the Padma Shri in 2006, and the Attimabbe Award from the government of Karnataka for excellence in Kannada literature in 2011.

Sutapa Sikdar: NSD graduate and a part of the Indian film and television industry since 1996. She has written various television series including Banegi Apni Baat and films like Kahani, Khamoshi and Shabd.

Vir Sanghvi: He became editor of Bombay magazine at 22, becoming the youngest editor in the history of Indian journalism. He has been a part of award-winning shows on the Star TV Network, NDTV and CNN TV 18. He also has a parallel career as India’s leading food and travel writer.

Vishal Bhardwaj: A renowned film director, writer, composer, singer, and producer, he has directed 11 films, produced many more, and composed music for over 40. He has won three international awards and eight National Awards.
