All You Need to Know About the ‘Mean Girls’ Musical Movie Adaptation

That’s so fetch!

The MEAN GIRLS musical adaptation is set to hit the big screen, and fans of the original 2004 film have every reason to be excited. From the original movie’s creator, Tina Fey, bringing her unique comedic charm and touch to the adaptation to some familiar faces reprising their roles and newcomers stepping into the pink-filled world of high school drama, here’s the comprehensive rundown of what to expect.

Creator Tina Fey expressed her enthusiasm about the project, stating, “I’m very excited to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen. It’s been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences.” The musical version, which Fey also wrote, initially took Broadway by storm from 2018 to 2021, and now, it’s all set to enchant movie-goers with a fresh perspective on the beloved story.

Eager fans saw what was in store as a trailer was previewed for Taylor Swift’s Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film. Reneé Rapp, reprising her role as the queen bee, Regina George, made a memorable appearance in the trailer, cheekily telling viewers to “Get in, loser.”

The adaptation will have Fey gracing the screen again and feature Tim Meadows, who played the stern yet funny principal, Mr. Duvall. Meanwhile, up-and-coming stars such as Angourie Rice and Auli’i Cravalho are joining the ensemble, bringing fresh energy and charisma to the iconic roles.

Rachel McAdams, who played the original Regina George, expressed her support and excitement for the new adaptation, particularly praising Rapp’s talent. Speaking of the new Regina George, McAdams remarked, “She is amazing. She’s already got me beat with that voice. So, I’m just excited to see her incarnation.”

As for the music, there’s a mix of the old and new. Rapp hinted at some changes, noting, “A lot of it is different. Tina [Fey] is a creative genius and a creative freak; her partner, Jeff Richmond, who does all of the music, is also. So there’s different things.”

Anticipation is building in theatres for the film’s January 12, 2024 premiere. New and old fans are gearing up for a cinematic treat that promises laughter, catchy tunes, and a healthy high school drama.
