Allocco, Mack Earn Weekly Ivy Men’s Basketball Awards

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following strong performances that led their respective teams to multiple impressive wins, Princeton’s Matt Allocco (player) and Harvard’s Malik Mack (rookie) earned weekly Ivy League men’s basketball honors.

There were impressive wins around the Ivy League last week. Penn started off the party on Monday evening in the Palestra with a 76-72 win over No. 21 Villanova. Princeton topped Duquesne – which beat Charleston by double digits – by score of 70-67 on the road. On Friday, Harvard topped UMass, 78-75, in overtime and Yale bested Colgate, Patriot League champions four of the last five seasons, 68-50. On Saturday, Columbia bested previously unbeaten Temple, 78-73, and Princeton ran away from in-state foe Monmouth, 82-57.

The league also stayed competitive against strong opponents. Brown had No. 16 USC on the ropes, trailing by just one possession with just over two minutes remaining. Yale erased a late second-half 14-point deficit to force overtime against Weber State, but ultimately fell. Less than 24 hours after its overtime win at UMass, Harvard challenged Boston College in a game that featured two unbeaten teams. Earlier in the week, Cornell battled George Mason in Fairfax, Va., in another contest between a pair of unbeaten teams.

Ivies are collectively 24-14 (.631) on the season with six teams boasting winning records.
