The Altoona Area High School will host its third annual Turkey Bowl tournament throughout Wednesday at its intramural field to raise money for the junior/senior prom.
The teams must consist of at least seven girls and three boys. Members of the district’s football team are not eligible to play in the tournament, but they are allowed to serve as coaches. Each team is permitted to have no more than three coaches, according to school officials.
With 10 teams registered so far, the event is expected to raise over $1,000 for the prom — collected from each team’s $100 registration fee and $1 ticket purchases that junior and senior students can buy to view the semifinals and championship games.
Anyone who wishes to watch the tournament will be able to from the sidewalk areas across from the field, officials said.
The tournament begins with a series of single elimination games throughout the morning.
Beginning at 12:45 p.m., the Lioneers dance team will perform at the field with teacher dance partners. The semifinals and championship game will take place afterward.
