The ninth-ranked Texas A&M women’s tennis team defeated Northwestern 4-0 in ITA Kickoff Weekend action Saturday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
A&M (3-2) will play TCU (2-0) at noon Sunday with the winner advancing to the ITA National Indoors in Seattle. TCU advanced with a 4-1 victory over Rice.
A&M’s Mary Stoiana and Nicole Khirin had victories in singles and doubles to help A&M win its 44th straight home match.
Stoiana and Mia Kupres, who are ranked third in the country in doubles, grabbed a 6-4 victory over 39th-ranked Christina Hand and Justine Leong. Khirin and Lucciana Perez teamed up for a 7-6 victory over Sydney Pratt and Elisa Van Meeteren to help give A&M the doubles point.
Top-ranked Stoiana, 31st-ranked Khirin and Daria Smetannikov all had wins in singles to give A&M the match.
