Amazing month for food bank [letter]

May has been an amazing month for the Columbia Food Bank — an amazing month full of kindness and generosity.

First, there was “Music with a Mission,” a benefit concert featuring the Wind Spirit Flute Ensemble, under the direction of Allen Anderson. Those lucky enough to attend this evening of magical music at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbia were also treated to the talents of the Columbia Symphonic Band and the Columbia Concert Choir. Also performing, to our delight, were musicians from the Columbia School of Music.

It was truly an unforgettable evening that blessed our food bank with not only music from the heart but also monetary and food donations to benefit those we serve.

Then, May 11, the Columbia Post Office sponsored a food drive “as close as your mailbox.” Kindhearted volunteers collected 1,011 pounds of food supplies that will be distributed to those in our community facing food insecurity.

What more can I say except “thank you” to everyone who donated their time, talents and treasures to our food bank and to the men, women and children who come to us so that “no one should know hunger.”
